Noonday Collection – The Storytellers

In case you missed my introductory post about Noonday Collection, you can check it out here.

With Love from East Asia

The Storyline collection is simple and delicate.  It’s easy to wear on a daily basis on its own or as a layering piece.  I absolutely love the simplicity and the versatility. Additionally, the fact that each piece has a special meaning and a story.

“Each Storyline piece captures a feeling, attribute, or aspiration.

[It is] a collection of refined accessories lovingly assembled by women in East Asia who have found freedom from sexual exploitation through dignified work. Perfect for everyday wear, each piece gives opportunity to a woman across the globe. Wear yours as a reminder that your story matters—and so does hers.”

Because of the partnership with Noonday, 31 artisans have been impacted over 1 year.  Seven pieces of the new Storyline collection provide 1 day of dignified work for a woman who is overcoming trafficking and exploitation.  Noonday’s first order created 1,500 days of work for these women!

Here is a sampling of the pieces from the Storyline collection.  You can shop the rest, here.  Be sure to select Carli Desai as your trunk show (that’s me)!

With Love from Ethiopia

I think this is one of my favorite collections (though how can I even pick a favorite?!).  I love the look of the mixed metal and the fact that it’s something new and beautiful made literally from war weapons.

“As they move through fields of coffee, wheat, and sorghum, Ethiopian farmers scan the ground for a very different harvest—artillery shells from former conflicts. Local craftsmen melt the shells down to create beautiful beads, then transport the beads to women in Addis Ababa who string them into beautiful accessories.

In Ethiopia, we partner with Artisan Businesses seeking to bring hope and dignified work to women emerging from vulnerable situations. Many of the women who craft our pieces are HIV+ or are beginning new lives after working in prostitution on the streets of Addis Ababa. Through fair and meaningful work, these women are overcoming stigma, pulling themselves out of poverty, and rediscovering their value and worth.”

Real People Making a Real Difference

Cherry, pictured here, is the entrepreneur behind Ellilta, an organization that creates opportunity for vulnerable women, including many women emerging from prostitution on the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They started by making mosquito nets.  Noonday began partnering with Cherry in 2014 to develop a brand new jewelry-making workshop for the organization.

Over the years, roughly 600 women have gone through Cherry’s program – getting off the streets, having access to counseling and developing skills that can bring dignified work to support their families.

Because of Noonday, 221 artisans have been impacted over 7 years of partnership.  80% of the jobs are held by women and nearly $3,000 has been donated to support the rehabilitation of women overcoming exploitation.
